Musica Viva Australia’s Education Program: Transforming classrooms with the power of music

At Musica Viva Australia, we’re passionate about fostering creativity and enriching classroom learning experiences across the country. Our education program is one of the most trusted in Australia, reaching 1,000 schools and over 170,000 students each year. Through interactive live performances, curriculum-aligned digital learning resources, and professional development workshops, we’re committed to making music education accessible, engaging, and impactful for primary school students across the country.

Engaging students with world-class shows

We are proud to offer schools a diverse selection of shows, each bringing unique musical and cultural insights to students across the nation. In 2024, over 55 talented musicians travelled across Australia, performing shows designed to be interactive, educational, and culturally enriching. In 2025 schools can choose from 13 unique shows including audience favourites Music in My Suitcase, Rhythm Works, and Wyniss.

We’re also thrilled to introduce 2 new shows: El Camino and Music of the World. El Camino takes students on a musical journey through Latin American sounds, blending traditional and contemporary elements to create an immersive experience that celebrates the rich diversity of Latin music. Meanwhile, Music of the World invites students to explore a global spectrum of musical traditions, showcasing instruments and melodies from Ireland, America, Italy, Eastern Europe and beyond. Both shows align with our commitment to offering experiences that broaden students' cultural awareness while inspiring a love for music.

Accessible programs for every budget and location

With affordability and accessibility at the forefront, we strive to bring high-quality music education to schools of all sizes and locations. For $10.50 per student, schools receive not only a live music performance but also access to a wealth of teaching resources designed to integrate music into everyday learning. Our Equal Music program offers financial assistance to low ICSEA and small schools, and for students facing financial or geographical barriers that would otherwise prohibit them from participating.

Supported by professional development

Musica Viva Australia understands the importance of supporting teachers with the skills and confidence to bring music into the classroom. Our Professional Development (PD) program offers face-to-face workshops and online webinars, enabling teachers nationwide to strengthen their approach to music education. Whether a classroom teacher or a music specialist, our PD workshops align with both national and state curricula, as well as the AITSL Professional Standards for Teachers.

In these interactive sessions, participants learn directly from experienced music educators, gaining practical strategies to teach music creatively and effectively. Our free ensemble webinars provide valuable insights into each MVA show and the accompanying teaching resources. Teachers even have the chance to meet some of the musicians from the booked shows, gaining first-hand knowledge on integrating the performance into their teaching.

There was always more than I could use, and always accessible for non-musically trained educators. Thank you for reminding me of the diverse and deep value of music.
