Dr Patsy Norton is currently Master Teacher at Craigslea State High School, where her responsibility is to improve teacher capability and student learning outcomes. She has had extensive experience in public and independent schools as well as in administration roles, as Head of Department and Dean of Studies. Her professional passion is the teaching of English and literacy learning strategies. In addition, she enjoys supporting teachers of all subjects to engage in classroom-based action research. Her personal research interests lie in teacher learning, literacy learning and pedagogy.

When two senior Music teachers saw a need to improve the quality of student’s home practice of chosen instruments, they implemented a strategy of solitary, deliberate music practice. In consultation with the school’s Master Teacher, they developed a model aimed at improving student learning outcomes.
