Leadership, school examples and curriculum implementation – the content you’d like to see in 2026

Our annual Teacher magazine reader survey has concluded for another year. Thank you to all our readers who took the time to complete our survey over the past 4 weeks. You shared so many valuable insights with us – from the topics you’d like more information on in the future, to what you love about your role, and wellbeing initiatives in place in your schools.

In this article, we’re delighted to share the winner of our $550 prize, and an overview of your survey responses.

What you love about your role

A real highlight for the Teacher team is reading your responses to one survey question in particular: What do you love about your role?

Here are just some of the responses we received – we look forward to sharing more of them with you in the future!

Guiding students to a better understanding of the world around them, and their role in it. (Secondary teacher, NSW)

The kids. Getting to know them, the interactions each day, watching them learn, seeing the light bulb moments. (Primary teacher, Victoria)

I love the see the improvements students make because of the teaching and learning decisions I have made. (Secondary leader, SA)

The content you’d like to see on Teacher in 2026

Last year you asked us for more content on leadership, literacy, and teacher wellbeing, and more. You can click on the hyperlinks to read through and listen to all the pieces we published in 2025 on these topics in response to your requests.

This year, you let us know that leadership-focused content is something you’d like to see even more of. Other topics of interest to you for 2026 include assessment, wellbeing, and literacy and numeracy. You also want more school examples – particularly in primary school settings – and content focused on curriculum implementation. If any of these topics are a current focus in your school, and you’d like to share the positive impact through Teacher, we’d love to hear from you. You can connect with us by emailing teachereditorial@acer.org.

Prioritising your wellbeing

The latest Australian research shows that workplace stress is an issue for teachers and leaders. In this year’s survey, we asked you about personal strategies you have for reducing stress at work, and to tell us about the wellbeing strategies your school has in place that have had a positive impact on you.

You let us know about simple strategies you have for reducing stress – things like debriefing with your colleagues and using AI to help with administrative workload. The wellbeing initiatives in place in your schools that have had a positive impact include staff morning teas, time being provided for staff collaboration, and placing a limit on the number of staff meetings.

We also asked you about the staff wellbeing strategies you’d like to see employed in your school. Again, making time was a major theme – many of you mentioned having collaborative time to plan and reflect with colleagues, and more time allocated to catch up informally with staff.

The winner of our 2025 survey prize draw

All respondents to our survey based in Australia were entered into a prize draw to win a $550 book bundle from Amba Press.

Congratulations to Kara Holdom from Charleville, Queensland, who won the book bundle for completing our survey!
